The New Trend in Dental Veneers

Dental VeneersDental veneers are at the same time cosmetically beautiful, and functionally important. They are one of those few technologies that has managed to transcend the boundaries of one or the other to be both. Unfortunately, there are those that consider dental veneers to be purely cosmetic, or esthetic, in nature, and this is a fallacy. The reality is this – when you have a broken, chipped, or cracked tooth you have one of three options. The first option is to simply do nothing and lose the tooth. The second is to replace the tooth using a bridge, denture, or dental implant. All of these are also considered to be cosmetic in nature. The third option is far more cost effective when you replace the damaged enamel with a treatment of dental veneers.

There is sufficient evidence, and common sense, to know that teeth cannot fix themselves. While your damaged tooth may be shielded, to a degree, by your mouth which will make allowances for its weakened state, sooner or later you are going to cause more damage to the tooth or cause the damage to spread. Eventually, you could lose the tooth altogether. A dentist that specializes in dental veneers, like us, can save the tooth and also make it look great.

Even dental veneers can go through several iterations of change, and have. In recent years, there has been a significant spike in the number of people that are using dental veneers to repair broken teeth. Almost a decade ago, in 2006, there were over 600,000 dental veneers patients across the country, a number that has grown significantly since then. With the growth in numbers of patients who are seeking a way to improve, protect, or repair their teeth has come a new trend, which we find extremely satisfying. Known as couture veneers, there is a new type of veneer being made by veneers dentists across the country.

These veneers are not your standard, perfectly white and shaped veneers. Rather they are created specifically for your mouth and have fused the idea of science, the installation and remedies of veneers, with art, creating a perfect match to your teeth. These veneers are so detail oriented that they can start out slightly discolored around the line of the gums, and gradually get whiter as you get lower into the mouth. When we install these veneers, we can do so at a slight angle so that it looks like you have a slight overlap in your teeth. Making maximum use of natural light, we can create dental veneers that are translucent enough that they allow the same amount of light through as your natural teeth for that radiant smile effect. These new veneers are popular because they so closely mimic natural teeth.

The question is how perfect do you want your smile to look? Too perfect is no longer the trend, with many patients preferring a more subtle approach to perfect teeth. The one word of caution with couture veneers is that they are more expensive than the traditional dental veneers, but one could argue that they are well worth the added expense. We will present you with both options so that you can decide for yourself.
