When you get your teeth whitening done, you are taking an important step in improving how people perceive you in a social context. This may appear to be a statement that gives credence to the aesthetic importance of having whiter teeth, but it is also rooted in psychological factors dealing with how we make initial judgments about people. For example, we know that most people will make a judgment call about someone they are meeting within the first seven to 15 seconds. This first impression often sets the tone for the rest of the meeting, and in the case of a job interview or where you have to impress a peer group, it is very important to make a good first impression. Fifty-three percent of people claim that the first thing they notice about a person is their smile, which means a significant amount of that judgment is made by your smile, and this is where teeth whitening can help. Eighty-nine percent of people who took a recent survey stated that a great smile works to make a person more attractive. Fifty-two percent in that same survey stated that they knew they would smile more if they only had better-looking teeth, and an interesting 26 percent of participants knew that visiting the dentist for simple procedures like teeth whitening would help them improve that smile. In a world where impressions are everything and you want to make an impact socially, having a brilliant white smile can be a very powerful tool in your belt.
With teeth whitening gaining widespread acceptance, more people are using this as their first step in improving their smile and the quality of their social interactions. This has created a multibillion-dollar industry that caters to every aspect of teeth whitening. As an individual, once you have decided to have whiter teeth, you will find yourself choosing which method of whitening is best and most convenient for you.
Teeth whitening? Let us do the work.
There is a large number of patients who simply want whiter teeth and so have us do all the work. In the carefully controlled medical environment of the dental clinic, we can go about giving you the teeth whitening you want, and the only thing you will need to worry about is picking the shade.
Teeth whitening at home but assisted.
For some of our patients, they prefer a more independent approach to teeth whitening, and so will do this process in the privacy of their own home. This does not prevent this group of patients from seeking our input, advice, and recommendation, however. In essence, you would be doing the teeth whitening at home, but with the indirect supervision of your dentist, who can assist where necessary.
Teeth whitening on your own.
There are dozens of solutions available over the counter for our do-it-yourself patients. The one thing we do recommend is this: even if you are going to do the teeth whitening itself at home, make sure to come in for an examination to ensure that your teeth do not have any underlying problems before you buy a home teeth whitening kit.
